Rent Supplements
If you are having difficulty paying rent and you are getting social welfare or HSE payment, you may qualify for the rent supplement.
In order to qualify, the HSE may consider
whether the size of your accommodation is right for you (and your family if applicable)
if you have applied for local authority housing if available
if you have a good reason for leaving your parents home, if relevant
how the cost of your accommodation compares to rent levels for similar accommodation in the area
whether you are sharing your accommodation with others
How much can I get?
The HSE decides the amount. The supplement will generally make sure that your income after paying your rent is at least equal to SWA minus a minimum contribution
This minimum contribution is usually about 15% of the total rent (everybody receiving the supplement must pay this)
If you would like more information on payments under the community welfare system you can find out more on the Citizens Information website www.citizensinformation.ie or on the Department of Social and Family Affairs website www.welfare.ie

Would someone from IAYPIC come with me to the Citizen Information office, i am a bit nervous going by myself ?
If you are a little nevous about going to the citizens advice by yourself, someone from IAYPIC can support you with this. If you are 17 & a half or over, our Aftercare Support & Advocacy Coordinator can support you. If you are under this age, then one of the Children's Rights & Participation Officers can support you. We can offer you support by helping you prepare for the meeting and going with you. Or depending on how soon the meeting is and where in the country you live, we can help you to identify someone else who could support you and go to the meeting with you.
