Research Programme

Research is about finding out about things in an organised way.

Doing research helps us to build up a picture about how best we, and the HSE can help and support children and young people in care.

IAYPIC employs a full time Research Officer. This role involves doing independent research about different issues that affect young people in care, for example their experiences of education, participation in reviews and experiences of leaving care.

It also involves working with other relevant agencies to build on national research relating to these and other experiences of children and young people in care.

To become a credible authority on young people in care in Ireland the research function aims to proactively monitor recent developments in Irish and International research and to consider their implications for the work of IAYPIC.

The information gained by our Children’s Rights and Participation Officer’s and Aftercare Support Network in their consultations with young people help IAYPIC to develop a better understanding of issues that affect young people in care. In turn the work of our Research Officer directly informs our other Services, compiling information to help inform the future development of all IAYPIC services and supports.
